I spent the entire day in bed on Saturday and got back into bed after church on Sunday! Who would have guessed that a full day and a half in bed was just what the doctor ordered? I certainly didn’t! Every time I made up my mind to get up and do something, a voice spoke to me and said: “Be Still.” For those of you who know me, being still is not something that comes naturally to me. But this weekend, I listened to the voice… and remained still.
This morning I woke up early with a pep in my step, a smile on my face, and peace in my heart beyond measure. I was calm, cool, and collected even though I have a full day ahead of me. My day will run until about 10 pm tonight, and that didn’t even concern me. I will spend the next seven days teaching, speaking, and traveling… and the upcoming schedule did not even seem overwhelming. Who knew that this weekend would give me the renewed energy and fuel to start fresh today with a completely different perspective on everything? Who knew, I certainly did not.
Do you know what you need right now to get a fresh start and new energy? Maybe you need a nap or a day in bed like I had this weekend. Maybe you need a walk in the park, time alone, or time in prayer. Maybe you need to lay off of the chocolate and grab an apple. Maybe you need to stop looking at what everyone else needs to do and look at the woman in the mirror. Maybe you need to get off of social media and stop comparing your journey to everyone else’s.
Who knew that a little rest and downtime would bring me all that it brought me, I didn’t, but because I was obedient to the voice of God, I was able to experience exactly what I needed to continue on my journey with a renewed mind and refreshed heart.
I didn’t know, but now I do. Stop whatever you are doing and ask God to direct you to that place of renewal for you. There is rest for the weary! Quit fussing about your fatigue and fix it. It really is ok to take care of you.
